Disconnects and AFKs = more chips for You
Chips, chips, chips! that’s what being successful at freerolls is all about. Get the most chips you can with the least risk…
Well here’s a good tactic if its used right. If someone has disconnected, or signed up for the tournament and not started playing yet, or even if they are temporarily AFK (Away From Keyboard), you can get their chips with little risk.
If you see someone timing out repeatedly on their turn, this is a good sign that they are one of the above, or that they are not paying attention to this tournament – remember many people will have lots of games open at once, and often a freeroll won’w be their greatest priority.
So if you see this, and the player then auto-posts their big or small blind, you may be in a position to grab those chips! Make sure you’re in a late position so you can see the rest of the table’s moves. If it looks right, and you have a semi-decent hand it is worth posting a raise and maybe stealing the blind from someone who is away or disconnected.
Be careful though, this tactic should only be used when you are sure they are away!
